BC Purse Pool Adjustments

Special Announcement on Purse Pool Adjustments.

May 15, 2010

The HBPA of British Columbia, HEI Management, and members of the Racing Management Committee met over the past two weeks regarding the purse pool available for the 2010 Racing Season.  Due to a decline in mutuel handle of approximately 10% Povince-wide as well as remaining vigilant with regard to the purse pool in order to avoid cancelling racing days later in the meet, the following adjustments have been unanimously agreed to:

  • Adjust down Maiden purses of Maiden $30,000 and Maiden Allowance by $1,000 and $3,000 respectively.
  • Adjust down purse from Open Claiming $12,500 to Allowance by $2,000 to $3,000.
  • Lower the Non-winners of Three races category from Claiming $7,500 to $5,000.
  • Beginning July 1 offer Maiden $3,000 races for 3&up for a purse of $6,000 plus BC Bred bonus.
  • The Non-winners at the $5,000 claiming level for 3&up will be written as Non-winners in 90 days versus Non-winners since March 1.
  • Stakes nominations on $50,000 races will rise to $200 with $750 to enter and $1000 to start beginning with the Jim Coleman Stakes on June 5. All starters in stakes races will be paid a minimum of 1.5% fom Sixth through Last.
  • Purses from Claiming $3,000 to $7500 will remain constant.
