With the Canadian Derby going 1 3/8 miles on Saturday, August 21, 2010 that gives the trainers at Northlands 9 weeks to ready their horses to go 5 furlongs further than they´re running on Saturday. What chance do Alberta based 3 year olds have against Woodbine, US based or even Assiniboia Downs horses?

Maybe the Derby Girls can help push for the last couple of furlongs.

Can´t blame Northlands for this mess as they´re only working with the racing dates that the HPHR in Alberta decreed.

I guess it´s far more important to promote the harness horse house league at the Alberta Gulag where a daily handle more than $20K is a bonus, than it is to ensure that the one major race in this province has the basis for marketability.

The HPHR in Alberta has oft stated that HRA won´t stand around and watch horse racing in Alberta die. Maybe not, but it looks to Phil like someone´s trying to kill thoroughbred racing in this province.

Phil heard that the harness industry will be approaching HRA with a proposed location switch for 2011. Harness at Northlands from May to December. Thoroughbreds to Alberta Downs from May to October. They then want to compare the Northlands thoroughbred live handle from 2010 with the Northlands harness live handle from 2011. Winner gets prime dates at Northlands.

Sounds like the harness industry´s lost faith in the prospect of Balzac opening soon.

Time for action from the thoroughbred industry to protect their territory.

As Phil pointed out last week he won´t be posting as often. Probably once a week for the next few months, either Friday, Sunday or Monday. Postings will always be by 9:00 AM MT.

Phil believes that the ennead is entitled to a level of consistency so they´re not forced to check Holybull every hour every DAY. The shill with his Backstretch Banter Column on thehorses.com does not appear to share Phil´s respect for his readers. The shill´s posting days and times are inconsistent and there are weeks when the column doesn´t even appear.

Same goes for race replays on the horses.com. No consistency for posting replays to the site.

Great way to build customer loyalty. Or maybe it´s deliberate so that the readers check back 10 or 20 times and the website looks like it has traffic.
